"I am thankful for what I have been through because it has given me the courage to fight the war on traditional thinking." Kanye West said this during his performance on VH1 Storytellers after singing "Flashing Lights". Traditional thinking is what causes the masses to be social pacifists and follow as opposed to lead. Traditional thinking is based on rationality in which most of our thought processes lie, but Kanye like many other icons tend to think light years outside the box and embody the courage to walk down a different path and march to the beat of a different drummer. People who dazzle us with their personal genius make it look as natural as breathing but face the internal battle of trying to fit in by standing out, a path asymmetrical to normality. Most people want to fit in. why are we afraid to stand out and think differently? Are we afraid of the ridicule of others? Are we afraid of failure?.....or are we afraid of success and the responsibility that comes along with it?

This blog is so on point. So on point that when I think of music, I can't help but think of the cookie cutter, carbon copy, do as i do, not as i say molding of artist the industry as a whole continues to put out time and time again. I know I'm not the only one who thinks and/or feels this way. Do listeners really need another, for example on a very basic level, Shyne or Gorilla Black (who ironically looked like Biggie) who sonically sound like B.I.G. or on more complicated carbon copying with Chris Brown, Usher, Justin Timberlake modeled after Michael Jackson. This in my opinion gets real played or played out I should say. I'm sure there are many more examples out there, but this is what comes to mind right off the top. At any rate, I'm not necessarily sure it's a matter of fear that causes most to respond to societal norms. I believe it's more of a comformity issue. It's much easier to conform and there's less criticism involved. It's the EZ-Pass way of life. However, how was are people really moving if he or she does what everyone else is does? Seems a bit contradictory to me.

Celebrities or 'Icons' have the leeway to standout and do such freethinking things. Regular everyday people, more often than not have things they need to consider before they apply the outlandish thoughts they possible have, in a real life setting. I can't deny the fact that Kanye has a gifted ear, and has created some very very good music within his short time in the 'game'. However his non-traditional way of thinking, doesn't always come out how he thought it maybe? There is nothing wrong with paving your own lane, and marching to your own beat. However, do it, and expect nothing more, or nothing less. Do you, but don't look for the acknowledgment from outsides sources to praise you for doing so. Before the money, there was a humbleness, and thankfulness. However, once the many came, now it's expected. Rarely, very far and few in between have there been black 'icons' who remain as humble as they were in the beginning, as their career progresses. It's possible I strayed off topic...my apologies. There is nothing wrong with thinking 'outside the box', but it's usually better accepted or even received when you don't look or sound like an ass doing it.
