I'm sort of ambivalent on the subject of "Mike the Great 'American' Entertainer" and "Mike the 'Black' icon". Essentially, he was both. The fact that he was born a Black, (looked) Black, and accomplished such feats as he did--AS A BLACK MAN--makes him a "Black icon". Equally, the fact that he has sold the most albums in the history of music, created countless hits, and has sold out probably all of his shows (and can moonwalk) makes him a "great American entertainer".
I really don't understand the argument. This is turning into a "Racial Draft"--and the Whites clearly want Michael.
